A girl...

...from Jackson's class just called and asked if he could play.

She sounded absolutely adorable. He already had a friend over so he couldn't, and truthfully I'm not completely sure if this little gal's Mom knew she was calling people on the phone. But the point is...a girl just called my son....huh.

I'm a Grinch

(Hi! We're alive...but apparantly September and October didn't exist at our house. I'll try to catch up, but don't hold your breath.)

Anyway, so I love Christmas as much as anyone does, but is it really necessary for one of the local radio stations to have already started their Christmas music marathon? Really?!?!

I mean, come on, give the turkeys their day people!!

25 on the 25th

We started a new thing this month in an effort to get decluttered. We call it "25 on the 25th." We have decided, as a family, that on the 25th of each month we will each choose 25 things to either give to DI, recycle or throw out.

Let me tell you...it was actually awesome! The kids did great and were understanding of why we were doing it and how it could help other kids who maybe didn't have as much as we are blessed to have. And it's 100 less things to have to take care of/step over/clean up! YAYAYAYAY!!!

Also, as a side note for those of you with kiddos and the attached "kiddo-gear", Babies'R'Us is having a promotion where they will take your old/used baby products like car seats, cribs, bassinets, etc. and give you a discount toward a purchase of something new. Of course, this is a huge marketing scheme to get people to come in and buy stuff, but hey, they'll take care of recycling all of the things that just feel awful to just throw out. Come on, who really wants to chuck their car seat in the garbage can?

First day in the First Grade!

So, I'm officially old. I have a "grader." Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of said scholar because when I got the camera out I found that the battery was dead. Of course. I took one on my phone, but who knows how to get that off of there.

So, since I now have 6 hours of just me and Broder, I will work on finding that and get a picture up of after school.

It was kind of like dropping my brother off at the MTC. Kids line up, march through a door, leave family outside, kids smile excitedly the whole time, moms nervously wave.

He didn't want me to come in and walk to the classroom either. Sigh.

Disneyland part 1

Our big family vacation this year was to Disneyland. Yay! I haven't been since I was around 11 or so. We thought this summer would be best, because next summer we'll have a little one and this year, Broder is still free!")

Overall, the trip was really fun. We stayed at a hotel just two blocks away from the main entrance, but it also had a shuttle if we needed it. We were there by 10 every morning and stayed until closing at midnight. The boys were exhausted!!! We went on our favorite rides mulitple times and we still managed to miss some rides too. We didn't do anything else besides Disneyland/California Adventure. 5 days of Disney fun. It was awesome.

The boys at our hotel.

Mickey, me, Jackson and Broder. The boys were so excited to meet him. Broder was especially excited to show Mickey his Mickey hat. He handed it to him and then turned around and left.

Dad and Jackson on "Small World." Go ahead, start humming the song now.

Me and Broder on "Small World."

This is on the "Finding Nemo" ride. This is also how Broder spent most of the rides. It was his defense mechanism. If he was scared, he'd cover his ears. I tried a few times to cover his eyes, but he wouldn't let me.

My Birthday

Catching up some more...
So I think the beginning of this blog hiatus began around my birthday, because I felt kind of funny blogging about my own birthday. "Hey, it's my birthday!!! Look at me, look at me, look at me!!!"

Anyway. My birthday was the first day of Youth Conference so I spent the evening at a devotional with John Bytheway, the Stake YM and YW and strawberry shortcake. Not bad.

To be fair to Tim, here is a birthday picture of me. (Still hoping to figure out how to get Tim's slideshow to load up here.) I can't remember if I've ever asked my mom if I was yawning or crying. Either way, nice form huh?

Catching up!

Hey there-
Still alive, just really hot.
I was planning on posting so much more tonight, but it took a lot longer to download pictures and such than I thought. So I have started out with a couple of exciting tidbits to keep all of our many (read: 4) readers interested, and will get posting more soon!

B-day party slideshow

At the party, Tim showed a slideshow that he and my Mom had put together. It was my life in pictures. Unfortunately, he did it on PowerPoint and I can't figure out how to get it from there to here. This is a complete shame because he worked hard on it and the end slide had some pretty exciting news for all who were there...

We are expecting a new baby in January!!

This news may still be news to some, but we are so excited and Jackson is REALLY excited. He says "Good morning, baby" to my tummy every day. Broder just thinks the baby is in his tummy. It will all work out.

Anyway, I am due January 5, but wouldn't be surprised if we have a fabulous Christmas present. We find out what we are having on August 21. I promise I'll keep you posted much better than I have recently.

June 4 cont'd...

As you may recall, June 4 is Tim's birthday. Well that night he had told me that we were going to go out to dinner for his birthday. He wanted to go some place nice, so he made reservations at the restaraunt at Thanksgiving Point. When we got there, the hostess told us that the main dining room was full, so we would be going upstairs. "That's weird," I said internally to myself, "there's like 20 open tables in there. Oh well." Anyway, we went upstairs and she opened the door to one of the rooms where Tim gently shoved me in and a whole crowd of people yelled "Surprise!"

My cute hubby had arranged a surprise birthday party for me a week early AND on his birthday as well. There were family and friends and it was awesome. I don't have any pictures of it, so I have nothing to post here...sorry!

Thank you to all who came. I had a very fun time and I love you all!

This is SO great!!

I don't know how many of you have seen this...it's becoming pretty famous, but it is so cool. This cute lady was on "Britain's Got Talent" which is a talent show/search TV show in England. You won't be able to watch just once. Trust me.

Petition for Change

This "Daylight Saving" thing has GOT to go.

Who's with me? I am asking all 12 of you who read my blog to sign my "blog-petition" below, which I will then forward immediatly to President Obama. He's a champion for change, right? He'd understand that this issue is of immediate importance and step away from the sinking economy and endless war to fix this, right??

YES WE CAN!!!

I'm sorry? Oh! You were expecting "other" exciting news. Well, Glenn Beck is also going to be there, so that's exciting, right?

Child Protective Services

One of the "games" the kiddies like to play together is "Jumping as far as I can off the slide while wearing a plastic grocery bag as a cape all the while trying not to land on each other." The rules aren't complicated.

Summer, you are free to run screaming from the room in reaction to the danger I put your children in while in my care.

Just don't call CPS...please.

First 5 Gimme Gimme

I got this idea from my favorite Lana in the whole world. She's the best...

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice for you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!

2. What I create will be just for you.

3. It’ll be done this year. {translation: you may be waiting a little while}

4. You have no clue what it’s going to be … it may be cards, a poem, a bookmark, something yummy or a complete surprise to you (and me!) … who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!

5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

6. Most importantly, you must offer the same deal on your blog - the first 5 people to comment on your blog (or if you do not have a blog, Facebook, etc.) get something made by YOU!

Pass it on!

Pirate Bubba

Not your typical peg-legged, dagger-carrying variety. More along the lines of Johnny Depp/Captain Jack Sparrow/eye-liner pirate. (Small one has learned to unscrew things, which means Mom's makeup bag is a veritable treasure trove!!)

At least he didn't eat it.

Adventure

Our family had a big adventure last night. Here's the story...

After dinner had been cleaned up, the kids were downstairs playing. I was upstairs on the couch reading with the radio and dishwasher on in the background. Jackson came upstairs and asked "What is that noise?" I told him that the dishwasher was running. (He has previously gotten a little nervous from the sounds coming from the washer.) He went back downstairs. A minute later, he came back up. "Mom, it's not the dishwasher. It's a different sound." So I turned down the radio to let him hear the noise. He said he was sure that wasn't it and asked me to come downstairs.

Halfway down the stairs there was a very definite NATURAL GAS smell, so I gathered up the boys and got them upstairs. Tim was in our bedroom and I told him about it. He said to start opening windows to let it air out. As we did this, we heard a strange noise from outside...kind of like the sprinklers were on full blast. At that point, Tim ordered us all out and across the street while he dialed 911.

It was about 7 p.m or so, so it was dark and very COLD. Broder, Tim and I didn't have a coat on; Jackson didn't have a coat OR shoes on. We made our way down the street to our previous Bishop's house. I could see that their lights were on. We knocked and asked them if we might come in for a little and explained what was going on.

Tim checked in a little later and told us that our neighbors on both sides had been evacuated and that there were fire trucks posted at each end of our street so as not to let people in. He said that there were Questar trucks and a backhoe too.

He went back out to check on our house. The Weidauer's were SO good to us. They let us play with their toys and gave us yummy treats. We were over there until 10 p.m.!!!

Tim kept coming back and giving us updates. The gas line into our house had ruptured for a reason nobody really knew. The firemen had been able to turn it off, but had to wait for the Questar guys to do the rest. The smell of the gas spread up and down the street. They installed a new meter, checked the soil around the meter for any pockets of gas, and monitored the inside of our house. The gas guy said that 1.000 parts per million was when they evacuate and 70,000 part per million was when the gas would spontaneously combust. The highest levels at our house were 1,200. So although it probably wouldn't burst into flames on it's own, any spark could have been very dangerous.

Which is why I was VERY concerned when Tim said that one of the Questar guys was SMOKING out on our lawn!!!!!!! Hellloooooooooo?!?!?

Anyway, eventually it was all clear to go home. Although I was still very nervous because I could still smell it. We were assured that the readings were all clear and that we were good. Jackson asked if he could sleep in my bed 'cause he wanted to protect me. Adorable!

Looking back on it all, we are very grateful for many things...

1) That Jackson noticed the weird noise in the first place. He and Broder were playing and watching a movie. It would have been very easy to ignore it.
2) That Jackson insisted that I check out the noise with him.
3) That we were awake. How much trouble if we were all asleep!?!
4) That it was early enough for neighbors to be home and awake.
5) That neighbors were kind enough to let us come in and to take such good care of us.
6) That Tim was home.
7) That we have emergency services to help out.
8) That nothing happened to our next-door neighbors or their houses.
9) That we were all safe and nothing horrible happened to us or our house.

We said many grateful prayers last night! Thank you again!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooaallllll!!!

Quick! When someone says, "Sherrie" what's the first thing you think of?

Athlete?
Runner?
Soccer?
All of the above?

Yeah, I didn't think so. Which is why I am so excited to share that I scored a goal tonight for the indoor soccer team I play for!!!

It's probably a one time deal, but I am basking in the glory of it all...and my family wasn't even there to see it! Game was way late for the kiddos.

Me and Austin Collie...going pro on the same day...coincidence?
I think not!
